Today as part of the Bad Boys of romance blog hop I’m going to talk briefly about the bad boys that rev my engine, and why.
First, from my own books (although it’s so, SO hard to pick favorites) I would have to say my favorite bad boy is probably Siddoh. The devil may care asshole playboy, who will maybe-probably be the hero of book four of the Chronicles of Yavn. Siddoh is, I suspect, hiding a lot behind that dickhead exterior, and I do so love a good puzzle. My other fave is Anton, the hero of Prince of Power. Anton was raised to be a murderer, but he changed his stripes for the vampires he fell in love with. Still, lurking beneath the surface is what he used to be. The fact that he could backslide, and he wonders if he ever will…
I’m also rather fond of all of my villains also, because they’re not just villains for the sake of villains. They see what they do as a means of survival, and sometimes it’s even about revenge or love. Love can drive folks to all kinds of craziness.
Other bad boys who squeak my ducky? Søren and Kingsley from The Original Sinners series by Tiffany Reisz, and if we’re talking paranormal I’d have to say my first love in the “book boyfriend” department was Vishous from J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Gun to my head, Vishous was probably the vampire hero who most made me want to write my own.
Aside from the fact that these guys are all kinky (not my bad boys–I haven’t tried to write a kinky vampire because hell, it’s been done so well already) and that’s just plain hot, I love a good dark, tortured hero. Usually asshole is never really about asshole. It’s about inner hurt, or some greater damage, as is the case in all three of these guys. That inner darkness and hint of vulnerability makes a hero extra compelling. And what they lack in traditional scruples they make up for in many, many other virtues. Plus they’re all hung like a California Redwood (as any good fictional bad boy should be), and that doesn’t hurt in the slightest. Or maybe it does. But it in the good way.
Giveaway:
Okay, so the whole point of a blog hop is prizes, right? My family was sick all last week, so I didn’t get on board with the official Rafflecopter thingie. So if you want, you can enter for the big prize by doing the clicky-clicky with the Rafflecopter, and you can also leave a comment telling me who your favorite fictional bad boy is to be entered for an ebook copy of King of Darkness or Prince of Power (if you’ve already got both, we’ll work out another prize like a pack of swag or something. I might even give away an ebook copy of The Siren by Tiffany Reisz, just because I love that book so fucking much). Bonus points for following me on Facebook or Twitter or subscribing to my newsletter. Or @TiffanyReisz, just because she’s awfully damn cool.
