Book Blast Cover reveal: Horn Gate by Damon Suede

True to form I’m doing things a little bass-ackwards. I posted a review of Horn Gate on the group blog I contribute to, Paranormal Unbound, just a couple of days ago… and NOW we are doing the cover reveal. We paranormal authors like to keep things interesting. So after you’re done checking out the cool cover here (which was drawn by a badass comic book artist Rey Arzeno) and entering the giveaway, stop by Paranormal Unbound for another chance to win a big bundle o’ Damon Suede swag and a free book! This is a fun and fresh take on paranormal romance, I hope you’ll enjoy it as much as I did:

I Was an RT Con Virgin

At the giant RT book fair, Pimping King of DarknessSo this was my first year attending the Romantic Times Con, and holy dancing Christmas, I can’t believe I almost wasn’t planning to go. I met so many  amazing readers, authors, editors, agents, booksellers…*sucks in a deep breath*… and even many of the fabulous RT staff members that support both what I love to do as a writer, and what so many of us love as readers. Truly phenomenal.

And let me just say, I love ALL of you guys. Seriously. I can hardly think of a single person I met who wasn’t totally cool, friendly, and enthusiastic. ESPECIALLY the readers, and you guys are what it’s all about. Thank you so much. I particularly love the reader I overheard saying that she intentionally went up to each author’s table at the book fair to say hi, so none of us would feel like we’d been ignored. She didn’t manage to make it all the way around the room, and I don’t think she made it to my table (which is just fine!), but I thought it was the nicest thing that she was concerned for of our collective feelings. That’s a thoughtful reader, right there.

Laura Kaye organized a fantastic Name That Vampire gameshow-esque panel with Caridad Pinero, Laurie London, Lisa Kessler, Joyee Flynn, and myself. It was off the hook, and we had so much fun. People had to guess the vampires from passages quoted, and if they got it wrong they had to wear a vampire bite temporary tattoo. Some people guessed wrong on purpose just to get the tattoo!

I also managed to attend a couple of panels as well, although not as many as I would have liked. There was a lot of scurrying to and fro! Bob Mayer’s panel on military information for writers had some good nuggets though, and “Sex Scenes They Won’t Skip”  with Damon Suede, ZA Maxfield, Marie Sexton, and Heidi Cullinan which was both informative and hilarious.

I met all the fabulous folks involved with my publisher, Sourcebooks. Awesome folks, especially my publicist, Beth! She really went the extra mile, and the RT staff said the Sourcebooks publicists are some of their favorites to work with! I had drinks with my release buddy, Tes Hilaire. Her paranormal, Deliver me From Darkness, came out the same day as King of Darkness! Do check it out–it’s awesome.

In between all the getting stuff done there was a teensy bit of downtime, and it was wonderful to meet authors and readers I’d corresponded with online but never met, and to see my critique partner, who I only get to hang out with a couple of times a year. Lack of sleep and blisters from pretty shoes aside, it was all good. Couldn’t have been more thrilled.

What a powerful, mind-boggling, exhausting week. I can’t wait to do it all again next year! I hope you’ll join me.

It’s Gone from Suck to Blow!

Okaaay, I am sort of burning the candle at both ends lately (I know – those of you who know me well are snickering: “Sort of?” “Lately?”). SO I guess I should say, worse than usual. Look, I’m a stress junkie, okay? I’m working to temper it, to make peace with it, but like an addiction, it may always be with me and it’s far more socially acceptable than passing out on my front lawn with a jug of Vanilla Mint Listerine nestled in the crook of my arm. But the gist is that I am feeling a little inside-out and upside-down today, hence this morning’s blog title. Sorry guys, I am not very lucid at the moment. Moving on… Beautiful Blue is finished!! I want to say how blown away I am by the response I got from this little experiment, so thanks to all of you who followed along. I wrote this story in a very different way than I usually work, and I was nervous that it would turn out to be a miserable failure, but I’m getting lots of great feedback from my Facebook and Twitter followers, and I have even been asked if I will repackage and sell it as a novella (maybe/probably) and if there will be a sequel/prequel (as soon as I have time to write one – those of you who are willing to provide free babysitting so that I may augment my writing hours, please leave a comment and references below). I was especially psyched one morning recently to stumble upon a blog by Mina Burrows (just for the record we are not related, and I didn’t bribe her in any way) who had written up a WONDERFUL review of Blue and also mentions King of Darkness, which I used to have an excerpt of posted on my main web site. I am finishing up work on King of Darkness this weekend!! Donations of caffeine are appreciated, btw. 😉 The manuscript has been shelved for the past few weeks in an effort to get a little perspective (meanwhile, working on the sequel, Prince of Power) but as I near my deadline I am shaking out the pages and knuckling down to work this baby over one more time. I have an AWESOME new critique buddy who has been wonderful and patient enough to slap me around and hold my feet to the fire, so that KofD can be at its best by the time I send it to my editor. Damon, by the way, is a terribly talented writer of gay romance and has a book coming out soon with Dreamspinner Press about love and the New York Fire Department (Hot in more ways than one! Come on, I had to say that…) and I encourage you to check him out. Happy Friday, folks!!
